Historical Films and TV Series in Chronological Order
On this page you'll find films and television series arranged solely by the historical year in which their plots are set.
To establish this order, I use the Gregorian calendar as the chronological axis, dividing dates into BC (before Christ) and AD (after Christ). This way, all productions share a single numerical timeline, from the most remote prehistory to recent history.
Included are both feature films and series (miniseries, period dramas, historical fiction or any serialized format). I do not judge their budget, artistic quality, or fidelity to actual events. A production may be an impeccable document or take dramatic liberties; what matters here is the temporal context its creators chose to develop the story.
(Note: the abbreviation c. before a year means circa, that is, approximately. In some cases the production does not indicate an exact date, so I place it based on the historical events it narrates, the characters that appear or the context it represents. That is why you will see entries such as c. 1300 BC or c. 1050 BC, which should be understood as an approximation within a reasonable margin).
That said, all that's left is to browse and discover fictions ordered by year. Enjoy the journey!
A final note: keeping everything on a single page eventually became unwieldy, so from the 19th century onward the journey continues on this page, where the timeline carries on without losing its thread
